Minimally Invasive Surgery

The Animal Medical Center of New England is able to provide numerous options for minimally invasive surgery (MIS). This type of surgery is performed by entering the body through the skin, a body cavity or anatomical opening that is much smaller then the typical “open” surgical site.

Benefits of Minimally Invasive Surgery

  • Smaller incisional opening, therefore less cosmetic scarring
  • Minimal damage to surrounding tissues or structures
  • Decreased operational trauma to the patient
  • Increased recovery
  • Reduction of post-surgical complications

Minimally Invasive Surgical Procedures Offered

Fluoroscopic Guided Procedure

This procedure involves the utilization of an imaging technique (similar to x-rays) intra-operatively to obtain real-time images of the internal structures of a patient. Procedures that commonly utilize the C-Arm

  • External fixation of long bone fractures
  • Minimally invasive fracture repairs
  • Spinal fracture repair and spinal fusion procedures
  • Soft tissue/ intracavity lesions/ bone biopsies
