Emergency/Critical Care Facility

We have concentrated on providing a “high-tech/soft touch approach” to our medical environment, giving our patients the best care and our clients the most comfortable experience possible. Our hospital has grown to offer our clients the most advanced medical technology and state-of-the-art equipment in the New England area. Our highly trained and experienced staff is prepared to provide compassionate, multidisciplinary, and comprehensive specialty and emergency care.

24 Hour Reception Area
When you arrive you will be greeted in our reception area where we’ll evaluate your situation and take immediate steps to address your emergency. We are prepared to handle all major life-threatening and difficult health problems in your pet. Our compassionate staff of receptionists will strive to make you comfortable as our doctors and technicians take over to give your pet the best possible medical care. You and your family veterinarian will be kept informed as treatment progresses and you will be given all options for continuing care.

Private Exam Rooms
Multiple private exams rooms give you the opportunity to discuss your pet’s health with our professionals in a convenient and personal environment. You are also welcome to privately visit with your pet in the event of an extended hospital stay.

Emergency & Trauma Area
When your pet has a serious medical condition or has been critically injured our doctors and technicians are on duty 24 hours per day to provide necessary life-saving care. All life-threatening problems are given immediate attention and we institute an appropriate treatment regimen. Some common critical conditions treated in our Emergency and Trauma Area include:
  • Heart failure
  • Respiratory failure
  • Seizures or unconsciousness
  • Bleeding, fractures, or internal injuries from being hit by a car
  • Shock and Sepsis
  • Diabetic emergencies
  • Neonatal emergencies
  • Parvovirus infection in a dog
  • Poisoning

Special equipment and procedures to significantly improve your pet’s chance of survival include:

Intravenous fluids and medication

  • Blood transfusion
  • Assisted and controlled ventilation
  • Electrocardiogram (ECG) to measure heart rate and rhythm
  • Blood gas analyzer
  • Pulse oximeter to measure oxygen saturation

Three Surgical Suites
Our three surgery suites have centralized oxygen and evacuation systems along with monitoring systems that include an ECG, Doppler, and pulse oximeter. We have also incorporated a cautery, capnogram, and ventilator in our advanced program for patient care. A designated recovery nurse monitors all post operative patients in heated recovery cages and utilizes a customized pain management protocol to keep patients comfortable at all times.

ICU and CCU
Our Intensive Care/Critical Care Unit provides lifesaving supportive care to critically sick or injured patients. When hospitalization is required for the ongoing treatment and monitoring of our patients our well trained staff and state-of-the-art therapy offer the best possible opportunity for successful recovery. Our Units are staffed 24 hours a day by a team of expertly trained doctors and certified veterinary technicians who work in conjunction with Dr. Anna Pesillo, board-certified in emergency and critical care.

The ICU/CCU services at AMCNE include all important components of patient care including the following:

  • End-tidal capnography
  • Pulse oximetry
  • Intravenous fluids
  • Peritoneal dialysis
  • Hematocrit, hemoglobin, and electrolyte monitoring
  • Oxygen incubators for neonatal care
  • Cardiovascular, respiratory and nutritional support
  • Medication and pain control administered in a timely manner
  • Separate isolation room for patients with contagious diseases
  • Immediate access to necessary support services such as:
    • Laboratory analysis
    • Radiography
    • Ultrasonography
    • Endoscopy

Pharmacy
Our fully-stocked pharmacy gives our doctors one more tool for providing the best possible health care for your pet. We offer medications, veterinary formula pet food, and vitamins and supplements. Visiting our Pharmacy will save you time by taking care of your pet’s needs “under-one-roof.”
