Diagnostics & Imaging

Our modern Idexx digital radiography equipment provides excellent diagnostic quality images, allowing our doctors to better evaluate and treat our patients. Digital radiography also gives us the ability to email x-rays to outside specialists in radiology, when necessary, for immediate interpretation of results. Dr. Anna Pesillo, a board-certified specialist in emergency and critical care, is on staff and available for consultation in difficult cases. We can thereby assure prompt service and effective treatment for critical conditions. Our ultrasound imaging system adds another dimension to our diagnostic capabilities by including a colourflow Doppler and the latest microconvex scanners and transducers to cover all diagnostic disciplines. In addition, we perform many specialty procedures, including GI series and urinary bladder contrast studies, which are necessary for identifying difficult or chronic problems.

Imaging
Digital Radiography - Our digital radiography system allows us to provide rapid on-site diagnoses and permits immediate re-takes when necessary, thereby enhancing our diagnostic capabilities to better serve our patients, clients, and referring veterinarians in emergency situations.

Ultrasound – Advanced ultrasound technology helps us to diagnose your pet’s medical condition without the trauma of invasive exploratory surgery. Ultrasound imaging gives us clear evidence and a precise structure from which to determine the most effective treatment options for your pet.

Laboratory
The Animal Medical Center of New England is committed to delivering accurate and timely laboratory test results, contributing to the care of the emergency patient by providing the information necessary to diagnose, treat, and monitor the patient’s condition.

Blood Analysis - Our CBC (Complete Blood Count) evaluates the presence of anemia, infection, inflammation and overall healthiness of the blood cells. Chemistry tests are used to evaluate the various functions and health of the liver, kidney, and pancreas.

Fecal Analysis - A fecal sample will help us to determine the presence of intestinal parasites, which are a cause of bloody diarrhea and severe dehydration.

Urinalysis - A urinalysis gives us the ability to assess the health and function of the urinary system and assists in the detection of kidney disease, urinary tract infection, and diabetes.

PT-PTT – A platelet count gives us the means of determining blood coagulation times.

Special Testing

Geriatric Blood Tests are used to detect diseases and organ failures in our pets as they age. These tests can detect conditions such as kidney disease, liver disease, diabetes, abnormalities with electrolytes (potassium, sodium, calcium), diseases of the blood stream (anemia/low red blood cells, leukemia, infection), thyroid problems, etc. When caught early, these conditions are better treated, and sometimes cured.
