An emergency is generally a sudden, unexpected condition requiring
immediate care. To determine if a situation is indeed a true
emergency, our staff can assist you in making a decision about
a visit to our emergency facility.
Please call us if you need assistance in deciding whether
your pet needs immediate care.
Below are some reasons to call:
- Injury
- Bleeding
- Convulsive seizure
- Suspected poisoning
- Persistent vomiting or diarrhea
- Persistent cough or sneezing
- Rapid, shallow breathing
- Abdominal swelling
- Sudden lameness
- Sudden behavior changes
- Prolonged labor in giving birth
Call also if you observe the following:
- Lethargy
- Excessive thirst or urination
- Straining to urinate

As the premier animal poison control center in North America,
the APCC is your best resource for any animal poison-related
emergency, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. If you think that
your pet may have ingested a potentially poisonous substance

A $55 fee may be applied to your credit card. The Center
will do as many follow-up calls as necessary in critical cases
and, at the owners’ request, will contact the owners’
family veterinarian. Follow-up calls can be made by calling
888.299.2973.
