Dr. Bruno Massat received a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Degree from the University of Liege in Belgium. After serving as an assistant professor at his Alma Mater for two years, he advanced his veterinary education by completing a small animal surgical residency at the University of California-Davis. He then earned Diplomate status in the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (ACVS) and the European College of Veterinary Surgeons (ECVS). He continued an academic career on faculty at the Veterinary College at North Carolina State University as a Surgical Instructor before moving into the private sector.
Dr. Massat served for several years as Head of Surgical Services at the prestigious Animal Medical Center in Manhattan, NY. He later became Head of Specialty Services at South Shore Animal Hospital located in Weymouth, MA. Most recently, he was the only board certified surgeon at Veterinary Referral Associates, a large referral veterinary hospital outside of Washington, DC.
Dr. Massat is well-published and recognized as a leader in veterinary surgery. He has spoken at numerous regional, national and international meetings and symposiums and guest-lectured at European veterinary colleges. He has taught numerous students, interns and surgical residents during his veterinary career. Dr. Massat has published surgical articles in medical journals including Veterinary Surgery, American Journal of Veterinary Research and the Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association.
Dr. Massat offers a full range of services in orthopedic and soft tissue surgery. His main surgical interest is Total Joint Replacement (prostheses) and he has achieved advanced post-doctorate training in the field. He has been performing Total Hip Replacement for over 15 years and is also qualified to perform the newly developed procedures, Total Elbow and Total Knee Replacements. His certification in physical therapy allows him to provide a complete orthopedic oversight of his patients, including post-operative rehabilitation, treatment of injuries related to sports medicine, arthritis and conditioning of canine athletes.
In addition to these areas of special interest, he is well-versed in all areas of small animal surgery, continuing to perform reconstructive, oncologic, thoracic, abdominal and neurologic surgeries.
