Kathryn Ann Rickershauser, DVM

Dr. Kathryn (Katie) Ann Rickershauser received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Degree from Tufts University after completing her Bachelor of Arts in Biological Sciences from Hartwick College in Oneonta, New York. Her veterinary experience includes an internship in emergency and critical care at New England Animal Medical Center where her primary responsibilities included receiving and treating emergency cases and continuing management of critical cares.  Dr. Rickershauser was the recipient of numerous honors and awards including the Shirley Shattuck Windsor Scholarship in 2004 and the Veterinary Association of the North Shore Scholarship in 2003, 2004, and 2005.  Before receiving her Veterinary Medical Degree, Dr. Rickershauser worked for nine years as a veterinary technician in both general practice medicine and emergency and critical care.

Dr. Rickershauser has always loved animals and grew up with animals, spending much of her time as a client in a veterinary hospital. She now has the ability to help other pet owners who are also attached to their animals.  In emergency medicine, Dr. Rickershauser can use her skills to produce an immediate difference in the well-being of her patients and can relieve the anxiety of her clients whose pets may be involved in a terrifying life or death situation.  Dr. Rickershauser is particularly interested in zoonotic diseases and stays abreast of important research concerning animal health and related human health issues.

Dr. Rickershauser shares her home with seven pets including two dogs, one cat, an African Grey parrot, a cockatiel, a chinchilla, and a gecko.  Her pets range in age from one year to eleven years old.  They range in activity from being an active swimmer (Ubie, a Labrador Retriever) to basking in the sun and eating crickets (Dawson, a gecko).  Her most mischievous pet is her cat, Caper, who likes to knock food items off the counter for Ubie to eat.

Dr. Rickershauser is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the American Animal Hospital Association, and the Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Society.
