Community Outreach
At the Animal Medical Center of New England (AMC), we think of ourselves as a community hospital. Serving and helping the local community has been is an important value that we strive to uphold since Dr. Leo Bishop started our hospital over 25 years ago.
Our management staff are deeply committed to this founding principle and help encourage our staff to participate in as many community events both within and outside the pet community.
Past Involvements in 2011…
Holiday Drives
Winter Holiday Stroll
We were very excited to be a part of the 18th Annual Winter Holiday Stroll on November 26th. Since 1993, the Stroll has served as Nashua’s official kick-off to the holiday season. Each year, close to 30,000 people from across New England visit downtown Nashua to enjoy the holiday event.
In support of the Humane Society for Greater Nashua, we collected cash donations, paper towels, pet food, and blankets during the Stroll.
Barktoberfest
“The Responsible Dog Lovers Health Day!”
In-conjunction with American K9 Country, we successfully co-sponsored the first ever Barktoberfest on Sunday, October 23, 2011! We are happy to report that this charitable event was a huge success!
We ran a profitable raffle table that collected proceeds to donate to numerous local charities which included among many, the Humane Society for Greater Nashua and Animal Rescue League of New Hampshire. We further hosted a series of speakers that educated us on to keep our dogs happy and healthy. Educating the general public about how to best care for their pets and raising money for local charities was truly the highlight of our event.
Visit our Facebook Page to view pictures and videos of the pet costume contest, the Nashua Police K-9 unit, vendors, sponsors, our staff and guests, speakers, and agility demos!
Thank you to the vendors and sponsors for helping make Barktoberfest possible. From the pet community of dog trainers, pet care attendants, veterinarians and their staff, dogs and dog owners thank you again for supporting Barktoberfest.
Blood Drives
We have Pets & People Blood Drives throughout the year which we co-host with the American Red Cross. At our blood drives, we register potential pet blood donors. The pet blood donation process (platelet apherises) is very similar to the human donation process. However, the timing of pet blood donation is different –blood is taken as needed. Your pet must already be apart of our donor program and be listed in our database of eligible donors in order to donate.
Our goal for our blood drives is to find eligible pet blood donors that can join our Pet Blood Donor Program and later be listed in our Pet Blood Donor Database.
Pets that register as potential pet blood donors receive a free physical exam. This exam includes free blood testing and a free temperament exam for dogs.
Walktoberfest
We were a “Top Dog” sponsor for the annual Waltktoberfest, the Humane Society of Greater Nashua’s biggest fundraising event of the year. The shelter benefit was held at Anheuser-Busch in Merrimack, NH.

Pet Step
This year we were a sponsor for the Animal Rescue League’s Annual Pet Step, a fundraising event that is held every September. This family and dog-friendly event was held at the Hillsborough County 4H Center in New Boston.

Benefit for Nashua D.O.G.
Staff and doctors from AMC and the Animal Hospital of Nashua (AHN) attended “Joey Voices” at the Crowne Plaza on Saturday, September 17th, to show support for the Nashua Dog Owners Group (D.O.G.). Nashua D.O.G. is a non-profit organization dedicated to the task of establishing a permanent dog park in the City of Nashua. Mayor Donnalee Lozeau has worked diligently to make the park a reality.
AMC and AHN have been happy to add support as volunteers and contributors. More work and more funds are needed to complete the park which will be beneficial to residents of the Nashua area, both dog owners and non-dog owners alike. For more information about the Nashua D.O.G, please visit their website at www.nashuadog.org.
Pepperell Public Safety Day
We were very honored to have participated in Pepperell Public Safety Day on Saturday, September 10th, along side police, firefighters, armed forces. This was a great community event, especially as it was so close to the 10th anniversary of 9/11. Thank you to individuals who dedicate their time to keep us safe!
Amanda, our Mobile Services Coordinator, took several great photos during the event, check out our the album on our Facebook page to view more!
